Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) refuted Democrat threats to subpoena two former attorneys general as a partisan power grab. On the Senate floor on Monday, McConnell said the calls by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) to subpoena Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr is “an appalling move” by the Department of Justice.

This comes after reports claimed the DOJ opened a secret probe into 12 House Intelligence
Committee members between 2017 and 2018, including their phone records among other information. McConnell noted the investigation happened before Barr even took office and assured he had nothing to do with it.

The DOJ claimed the probe was launched to find out who was leaking sensitive national security information to the mainstream media at the time. An investigation by The Justice Department’s inspector general is currently underway.

McConnell went on to add the investigation was completely legitimate and Democrats are ignoring abuses by their own party such as the Obamagate spying on the 2016 Trump campaign.
