'More must be done' to expose how 'deeply China has its tentacles' in Pacific region

Sky News host Peta Credlin says even though Russian President Vladimir Putin’s threat of nuclear warfare is currently a main concern, Australia should be aware of what China is doing in the Indo-Pacific.

Ms Credlin said a new report highlights the Chinese government’s “sustained attempts to subvert the leadership” in the Solomon Islands in an attempt to build a naval base – which would be “capable of interrupting the shipping lanes between Australia and the United States”.

“According to a report from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, print and social media in the Solomons increasingly claims that the government’s security agreement with Beijing is a necessary response to ‘colonialist bullies’,” she said.

“More must be done to expose just how deeply China has its tentacles into some Pacific leaders, if we are to avoid a hostile military base on our doorstep.”
