Governor-General ‘joins criticism’ over Morrison’s secrecy 'in subtle way'

Australian Financial Review Political Editor Phil Coorey says a statement from Governor-General David Hurley only adds to the “spectre” that former prime minister Scott Morrison “really is quite friendless at the moment”.

In a media statement, a spokesperson for Mr Hurley revealed it was not the Governor-General’s responsibility to inform the broader ministry or public about Mr Morrison’s appointments to five additional portfolios.

“He did sort of say that the other day in a statement but he’s a bit more forthright in the one he’s just released,” Mr Coorey told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“It’s quite rare for the Governor-General to make such a statement but you could sort of argue he’s joined the criticism over the secrecy in his own subtle way.”
