US Congresswoman Liz Cheney could run for president in 2024 – in a bid to block former president Donald Trump from returning to power.
Ms Cheney was open about her intentions – after losing her Wyoming seat in the GOP primary to Trump endorsed candidate Harriet Hageman.
Perth USAsia Centre CEO Gordon Flake says he hopes Ms Cheney would run in 2024 as had distinguished herself during her time in the role and made a bold claim in her concession speech.
“She also made a rather powerful concession speech the other night indicating that the Republican Party is over,” he told Sky News Australia.
“She said this election marks the end of the Republican Party and called it a nationalistic cult dedicated only to Donald Trump.”
Mr Flake said if Ms Cheney were to run, it “would not bode well for the Republican Party’s chance” as it would split the vote.
